Anglesea General Store
About This Spot
Nestled along the iconic Great Ocean Road in Anglesea, the Anglesea General Store strikes a comfortable balance between a cozy café and a well-loved local gathering spot. As you step inside, there’s a quiet hum of easy conversation, the kind that comes with familiar faces and fresh coffee brewing nearby. The ambience is unhurried yet welcoming, inviting both early risers and casual wanderers to settle in and soak up the relaxed coastal rhythm.
The space hums with a subtle eclectic charm — a mix of rustic touches and everyday simplicity that mirrors the laid-back spirit of the town itself. Whether you choose to linger at the sunlit side seating, savoring the view, or linger inside amidst the soft clatter of cups and friendly exchanges, you’ll find yourself drawn into the gentle flow of community life that pulses here.
Food at Anglesea General Store doesn’t shout for attention but rather comforts with honest, thoughtfully prepared plates that feel just right after a morning surf or a day exploring nearby trails. From smooth, chocolate-tinged soy lattes to flaky almond croissants and hearty breakfast options gently warmed on sourdough, the menu complements the mood — nourishing without fuss, each bite paired perfectly with the casual charm of the place. The all-day offerings reflect local tastes and an eye for simple quality, whether it’s the satisfying crunch of onion rings or the delicate sweetness of a lemon tart enjoyed alongside a cup of chai.
Behind the counter, the staff exude warmth and attentiveness without hurry, their easy smiles as much a part of the experience as the carefully crafted coffee. Visitors often find a familiar humanity here — a place where brief encounters can feel like a pause to catch up with an old friend or a moment’s calm in a day spent on the move.
Anglesea General Store feels less like a stop along the road and more like a quiet nod back to the joy of everyday connections — where the simple pleasures of good food, genuine service, and an inviting atmosphere come together with just enough vibrancy to brighten the day.

Love my new coffee and breakfast haunt in Anglesea. The coffees are the best in town made with love !! Nice chocolate tones and colour . The staff are friendly here . It’s near the Shell Service station .

So glad we stopped here for a bite to eat. Excellent Long Black coffees with happy chatty team of staff. Soup of the Day (potato & leek) was 10/10 as was the Tuna melt

Impromptu coffee stop between jobs. Forst time here. Great location. Excellent view. Place was busy around midday work day. Staff were lovely. Coffee was delicious and appropriately priced for a touristy destination ($6 small soy latte). Didn't get anything to eat but the display window showing good array of classics like croissants to yummy looking brekky rolls. Shop stocks lovely collection of things to buy.

Me and my husband dropped in for a quick pit stop. The outside seating area on the side was really nice set up and everything you need is inside. The lady who served us was very friendly and helpful. My husband had a coffee and I had a smoothie, my husband said his coffee was okay and I thought my smoothie was really good. Overall we were very satisfied with our choice.

I've always liked Anglesea General Store. The new owners have changed it a bit, but it has its old charm, and great food. Looking for something healthy on my first day, I took a broccoli and bacon salad back to my motel room. It was so good. Not only broccoli (I think carrots too) and good quality bacon (it tasted more like a good ham) in it, but also dried cranberries and slivered nuts. All with a very nice dressing. Early this morning I went back for coffee and fruit toast. As I was going out for dinner, I decided to get something light for lunch, and although the roast vegetable wraps looked good, I opted for a savoury muffin and a kid-sized vanilla milkshake. I don't really like muffins, but was so glad I made this choice. The savoury muffin was just loaded with roast veggies and goats cheese and tasted great. And the milkshake tasted just like they did when I was a kid. While there's an all day breakfast menu, I do wish they had a few more lunch options. Anglesea General Store is rustic in style, and the table numbers reminded me of Canada :) They also stock local food products. So it's an interesting place to browse too.

We wanted a quick on the road type breakfast while returning from Phillip Island to catch the ferry back to Melbourne. We were thinking it was a little grocery store. So thankful we stopped. There are some tables to enjoy a sandwich and beverage. The store has limited specialty groceries and nice gifts. My husband and I grabbed a few quick things to go. We enjoyed a hot chocolate and a berry fruit + mango smoothie. We also got a blueberry lemon muffin and a Dubai chocolate croissant. Everything we had was delicious!! That lemon gooey syrup baked into the muffin was perfect! Lots of berries and lemon flavor! I have to try to make them at home. I also have to say we both agreed the chocolate croissant was the World’s Best! I told my husband we should turn around and get another one! I think he still regrets not going back, but we had a ferry to catch. We’re still dreaming of that croissant! Your sandwiches also looked amazing! I regret not taking pictures.
